At Cloud Computing Bootcamp on the sidelines of Cloud Expo, I gave a talk on the favorite topic of mine. I was putting forward my arguments about why Open Source is critical in cloud computing. I had a simple take away from my talk:
- World cannot afford a monopoly offering around cloud services, a handful of players meeting all of the world’s needs using one size fits all approach. I quoted the consolidation among the wireless players in United States as example and argued, like the wireless players who stifled innovation, these handful of cloud service providers will eventually affect innovation. As I do in this space, I advocated a federated model as an antidote against this consolidation
- I, then, argued that open source is needed to ensure such a federated model because it completely removes any barrier to entry for cloud providers
I thought I will add my slides here so that people can comment on the thoughts, scrutinize it and, even, criticize it. Feel free to jump in.
