Facebook today announced that they will allow vanity URLs (like www.facebook.com/username) by 9:01 PM PST on friday. The tech blogosphere and twitteratti are already excited by this announcement and there are many who are already in the line by logging into facebook much like how Robert Scoble did during iPhone release. Alas, these poor souls are not aware of a shortcut to get vanity URLs.
It appears Facebook investors are given preference to get the vanity URLs they want, well before lesser mortals could get their hands on it. Microsoft has already gobbled up URLs like http://www.facebook.com/Microsoft and http://www.facebook.com/cashback, It is sad to see the faces of all those people punching their desks to click on time to get the URLs of their choice. Instead, they could have invested a small amount on Facebook at around 300 Billion valuation and they could have just got the URLs of their choice. Good luck next time people
