If you run a WordPress blog and can’t get into your Admin Panel today, you’re not alone. Or to be more specific, you can get in for a second, then the page blanks out. If you are fast enough to click on a function in that second, you’re lucky – or if you know the direct URL of the subpages.
Strangely, this only happens in Firefox or Chrome – IE8 can load the Admin page, albeit with errors.
Here’s the culprit: WordPress.com stats are borked today. Yes, this can effect self-hosted blogs too, if they run the stats plugin.
Here’s the band-aid solution: go to /wordpress/wp-admin/plugins.php and deactivate the wordpress.com stats plugin. Then you will able to access your admin page. Thanks to PressHarbor for the quick fix.
Keep an eye on the forum and enable it when it’s safe again: you will likely see a dip in your stats, due to the outage.
Update: Apparently wordpress.com stats received a facelift, perhaps that’s where all the trouble started…
Update: Well, that was fast. The problem appears to be fixed now, so you no longer need the band-aid. If you’ve already applied it, time to remove, i.e. enable the plugin again.
