Why SOPA is going to be unenforceable

Why SOPA is going to be unenforceable

By Dan Morrill on November 16, 2011

I would lay odds that SOPA is going to pass, and pass by a majority in the house and senate; it is debatable if the president will sign it. If you have been involved in Bittorrent or P2P systems for a long time, you know that the minute something passes like a law against something, [...]

Seattle Startup Weekend - Some Thoughts

Seattle Startup Weekend – Some Thoughts

By Dan Morrill on November 15, 2011

It has been over a two years since I went to my last startup weekend here in Seattle, and the sad part is that it really did not leave an impression. You would think that something like this would, but two years ago, it did not. This year however, I was able to go [...]

Facebook's new "Needs Review" feature

Facebook’s new “Needs Review” feature

By Dan Morrill on November 15, 2011

I like Facebook a lot, and spend significant social media time there talking to people and otherwise engaging in the usual social media voyeurism. What was very cool today though was the “needs review” tag that is automatically opt-in rather than the usual don’t sweat it you have to manually figure out how to opt-in [...]

Kingdom Conquest from Sega, ITunes, and Theft

Kingdom Conquest from Sega, ITunes, and Theft

By Dan Morrill on November 11, 2011

From what I have been able to research the Kingdom Conquest in app purchases that are unauthorized just keep on coming. It has been about a year now (based on what I was able to find) that this has been a known issue, with Apple giving refunds to customers. Given the amount of data, it [...]

The Day Network News Died

The Day Network News Died

By Dan Morrill on November 7, 2011

I have been reading an entry over on Torrent Freak about the shut down of one of the few Tier-1 Usenet servers on the planet. Usenet is a holdover from the very early days of the internet and has been one of the major ways that people communicated and shared information before P2P and long [...]

Law Firm going after individual sellers on Amazon for Patent Violation

Law Firm going after individual sellers on Amazon for Patent Violation

By Dan Morrill on October 31, 2011

I don’t know enough about this right now to go and make the statement of if this is a valid legal issue, or if this is simply “patent trolling”, but apparently a law firm representing Kelora Systems is now going … Continue reading →

The end of business as usual by Brian Solis

The end of business as usual by Brian Solis

By Dan Morrill on October 30, 2011

It is fairly unusual for me to take a week to read a book, but the new book by Brian Solis is one of those books you need to take nice and slow to get all the nuances in it. I think personally that this is Brian Solis at his best, this is him at [...]

A Tale of two customer bases: Amazon and Ebay

A Tale of two customer bases: Amazon and Ebay

By Dan Morrill on October 26, 2011

My company is four years old this week, and while we do have our own web site where we sell from, we need to be on Amazon and Ebay as well to make sure we get the largest audience possible for our products. Going through the data over the last year, and over the last [...]

New Klout Scores. No Sir, Many People Do Not Like That.

New Klout Scores. No Sir, Many People Do Not Like That.

By Dan Morrill on October 26, 2011

The whining has been phenomenal today with the changes to how Klout scores your relative influence within social media and networks. While it is an interesting system, and one that I do watch because when I have a Klout score of above 50 people offer me interesting things to do, there are still some things [...]

Did the hacker who shared internal Occupy Wall Street emails violate CEH ethics

Did the hacker who shared internal Occupy Wall Street emails violate CEH ethics

By Dan Morrill on October 17, 2011

Gawker has run a very interesting expose on a Certified Ethical Hacker who infiltrated Occupy Wall Street (OWS) as a private citizen, and shared internal OWS e-mails with Andrew Breitbart’s Big Government page. The question that he did it is fairly well established with his own writing on the Big Government page, and the Gawker [...]

New Facebook IPAD application rocks but

New Facebook IPAD application rocks but

By Dan Morrill on October 13, 2011

With everything there is always the potential for using something for good, or just downright stalking people. I downloaded the IPAD application last night for Facebook, and overall I really like it. But thought that the mapping feature was simply … Continue reading →

And I get a takedown Notice from Aiplex in India

And I get a takedown Notice from Aiplex in India

By Dan Morrill on September 30, 2011

About a year ago (to be exact, September 20th 2010) members of 4chan started an attack against low yield targets against the MPAA, RIAA and Aiplex. That article was picked up by Cloud Avenue and was an article that flew under the wire, few if any paid attention, and like all events this one was [...]

The Google Plus 1 Tab looks a lot like Stumble Upon

The Google Plus 1 Tab looks a lot like Stumble Upon

By Dan Morrill on September 30, 2011

Should Stumble Upon worry about Google Plus? One of the things I really do like about Google Plus is that it has the plus one list so I can keep track of what I am plussing. It does not mean I had to make this public, if anything you have to consciously click a button [...]

Porn sites start using Facebook Connect

Porn sites start using Facebook Connect

By Dan Morrill on September 29, 2011

With a sense of humor because when Mashable’s Pete Cashmore wrote that Facebook users should be beware that the new timeline feature could embarrass a user, I just had to see what the porn industry was doing. Porn has been trying to get involved in social media, but for a multi-billion dollar industry we tend [...]

Europe VS Facebook the data deluge edition

Europe VS Facebook the data deluge edition

By Dan Morrill on September 28, 2011

Trolling Facebook is in high fashion today as Reddit users swamp Facebook with requests for individual user data. It would be awesome to know what Facebook knows about you, and to get an idea of just how popular this idea is, check Slashdot this morning. What is interesting though is out at Europe-V-Facebook.org website they [...]
