Ouch! I think we can say goodbye to MySQL as we know it at present! :(
Java? MySQL?
Not much more to say at the moment... Yes, I know, this should have been a Tweet
Details @ Bloomberg, NYT, TechCrunch, GigaOM, deal architect, SmoothSpan and soon the rest of the world...
Update: A day later, if you had any doubts, here’s the answer: Bye-bye MySQL, Bye-bye: Buried Alive By Oracle.
Ouch! I think we can say goodbye to MySQL as we know it at present! :(
Fork, Fork, Fork!! People, it is time to fork Mysql and save it. Sad day for Open Source and Sad day for SaaS too. This has to happen on the day I am going to deliver a talk on the importance of open source in a SaaS world.
Krish gets an exercise in real-time update of his presentation :-)
I am planning to stick with the talk I planned. Maybe I will start the talk with a black colored blank slide to offer my condolences to the "death" of a great software :-)
Krish, Just wear a black armband to the talk... it is more subtle.
Take a look at Oracle's open-source page: http://www.oracle.com/technologies/open-source/index.html So I'm not too worried about Java or MySQL.
Sorry about the multiple posts - I kept getting a message that were was a problem and to try again later...using Chrome beta 2.0.172.6.
It's funny - I've been bemoaning the proliferation of free (and hence unviable) software and services for awhile now but MySQL? It's kind of like charging for the air we breathe....
Hello, definitely I don't share the idea that this is a sad day, even for OpenSource. MySQL has already a forked version, apparently done by Monty, an original developer of, and ex-CTO of MySQL AB. I think that this is a movement very interesting to the Cloud Computing paradigm. a litle more about this here.
