Apps.Gov Pushes SaaS to Uncle Sam, DocuVantage is Onboard.

In recent news, Document Advantage Corporation, provider of SaaS document management software has been approved by General Service Administration (GSA) to offer document capture, imaging, archiving, rules-based workflow, collaboration and records management compliance via its DocuVantage service. Apps.Gov is an initiative by GSA and in the words of Federal Chief Information Officer (CIO), Vivek Kundra, “ It is an online storefront for federal agencies to quickly browse and purchase cloud-based IT services, for productivity, collaboration, and efficiency.”

Oracle's Ellison Previews Fusion at the OpenWorld conference.

Larry Ellison, CEO Oracle Corp showcased the long awaited Oracle Fusion Applications at the OpenWorld conference 2009. Fusion Applications will be available as on-premise software and as on-demand service. They are running the tests with few customers and will be officially launched by 2010. "We can afford to not only maintain the software you're running today but can also build the software you want to move to tomorrow, whether it's tomorrow, next year, five years or 10 years from now, so you have a choice to stay with what you have or move to the next generation of apps" stated Ellison.

BroadSoft to Acquire Packet Island, QoS Technology.

In recent news, BroadSoft Inc, has announced the acquisition of Packet Island, Inc, a provider of SaaS-based QoS monitoring tools for VoIP and video networks and services. "The easier we can make it for BroadSoft’s customers to ramp up their installed base, reduce churn, reduce support costs, and therefore increase their acceleration in the market, it’s really good for everyone.. BroadSoft is a leader in this space, and I’m really looking forward to Packet Island adding to the success that BroadSoft has already built" said Praveen Kumar, CEO Packet Island who will join BroadSoft as Chief Technologist for PacketSmart platform.

Scio Consulting Partners with Boomi to Provide Cloud Integration Services.

A strategic partnership was announced between Socio Consulting, provider of SaaS enablement services to ISVs and Boomi Inc to facilitate the integration of SaaS and on-premise applications. "It used to be that SaaS apps and critical information were stranded in silos across the enterprise. Now with Boomi's unique services, we can provide ISVs with Boomi connectors and convert integration from a sales barrier to a competitive advantage.” stated Luis Aburto, CEO of Scio Consulting.

Zscaler Provides Protection for Largest Ever Microsoft Patch Cycle.

Zscaler Inc, the market leader in cloud-delivered multi-tenant Security as a Service, today announced that it has deployed protections to protect customers against web based threats included in Microsoft's largest ever monthly patch cycle that covers a total of 34 vulnerabilities in 13 advisories. "Thanks to our involvement in the Microsoft’s Active Protections program, we were able to gain early insight into this month's patch cycle and ensure that protections were available as soon as the vulnerabilities became public," said Michael Sutton, vice president security research, Zscaler.

Cloud Computing Firm Saaspoint Raises $2 million.

Saaspoint, the Irish owned cloud computing consulting company, has announced that they’ve raised $2 million to support the next phase of its development. The funding was lead by Enterprise Ireland, the Irish Government agency & few other private investors in exchange of small equity stake in the company. "We had significant international interest in this round which augurs well for future fund raising. There is an appetite out there for leaders in the cloud computing space." said John Appleby, chairman, Saaspoint.

LTech and Google to Host Executive Breakfast in Chicago to Outline Benefits of Google Apps and Cloud Computing.
