Google Chrome is a Failure… Surprised?

Last month Google released its Chrome browser to the public and as usual it made a lot of PR noise (and a comic book) and got lots of favorable reviews

When combined with Gears, which allows for offline access, Chrome is nothing less than a full on desktop operating system that will compete head on with Windows

A month later, is Google Chrome even close to the the expectations set on its launch?
According to analytics company GetClicky, the usage of Chrome peaked soon after its launch to about 3.1% share of the browsers market, after which users pretty much lost interest and went to their usual browser making Chrome’s market share down to a steady 1.5%.
The browser’s launch soon followed compatibility problems (with Google’s own services) and security issues, and the link to Chrome’s download page on Google’s homepage was soon quietly removed.

Surprised?  Given the fact that Google tends to launch products and then loses interest and send them to perpetual beta (which happens to more than 50% of its products!) you really shouldn’t be…

Microsoft killer? The next OS for cloud applications? I don’t think so
