I hate it when people use a discrete example to cast doubt over an entire industry.We see it every time Gmail has an outage. We see it every time there's a Salesforce outage. It’s unhelpful and it’s just plain wrong.

The latest example came this morning – commenting on the SageLive issues, Kevin White from CBRonline wrote an article, the last paragraph of which said, almost flippantly;

…the situation is indicative of where the nascent SaaS market finds itself. Despite the market momentum behind the software-as-a-service model, concerns over security and the perception that it is more prone to breaches and down time than other application delivery options continue to drag on the pace of its adoption

I just can’t believe it. It’s akin to someone dismissing installed software completely because hard drives sometimes die, or decrying the introduction of electricity because power cuts sometimes occur. Or not using a telephone becuasse sometimes lines get cut.

It’s the words of luddites and those fearful of change….
