Robert Scoble has a long laundry-list on how to effectively use social media in your job search if you are laid off.   I agree with all but three points he makes:

  • It’s a little late to start when you get laid off. Proactive brand creation before you really need it works a lot better.
  • Roberts suggests you remove LOLCats and anything incriminating from your blog, Twitter stream…etc.  Again, too late: it stays in Google cache probably long enough to last through your job search. You need to be congnizant of your online presence at all times, and proactively shape it.
  • Finally, his #13: send resumes.  Well, that’s like carpet bombing.  Wasted effort, you may be better off improving your inbound marketing.
