CloudCamp London: the Big Data Special
Image by Kevin Krejci via Flickr The CloudCamp unconference returned to London for the 14th time this evening, regaling a capacity crowd in the Crypt below Clerkenwell’s St James Church with several hours of discussion and debate on the somewhat elusive topic of ‘Big Data’. Rather rough notes of the proceedings follow, after the break. [...]
T Shirt Friday #40 – CloudCamp
Everyone knows that professional conference goers like myself attend events not to listen to presentations, not to network but to collect schwag. Over the past couple of years I’ve done fairly well collecting tech t-shirts and I decided to create a weekly series critiquing tech companies t-shirt offerings in the expectation that a company with [...]
CloudCamp Sydney – The Same Old Memes
Two weeks ago the Australasian CloudCamp tour hit Sydney for an event at the National Innovation Centre of the Australian Technology Park. A crowd of around 90 people turned up for some lively discussions – as always there were some common themes – the legal and jurisdictional aspects of Cloud Computing and the public/private cloud [...]
CloudCamp Auckland – First of Many
Last week I ran the first of a lengthy series of Australasian CloudCamps – this one was in Auckland, New Zealand. When I first started telling people that I was running the events, I was pretty stunned at the buy-in: both from potential sponsors and from attendees. It seems that 2010 is going to be [...]
CloudCamp at Gluecon – Australasia Moves East!
As regular readers will know, I’ve taken up the role of Australia/New Zealand organizer of CloudCamps. The interest in these camps from both sponsors and attendees has been overwhelming – 2010 really is shaping up to be “The Year of the Cloud”. One month in to 2010 and we’ve already lined up events on both [...]
Cloud Camp Seattle 03 Feb 2010
Sometimes it is just best to go to camp, and Seattle is having Cloud Camp, or an “Unmeeting” of people to discuss the problems and issues in cloud computing. We will be posting gallery pictures, but you can also follow us on FriendFeed/techwag tonight if you want near real time information on the event. 5:58 [...]
CloudCamp Haiti – Everyone Doing Their Bit
I’m proud that the Cloud community has got behind the Haiti relief effort. Having some friends who have lost close family members to the earthquake brings home to me the impact of a disaster on the scale of this one – especially in such a poor country as Haiti. CloudCamp is running a virtual event [...]
CloudCamp Australia/New Zealand – TShirt Design Competition
As part of my previously announced role as regional organizer for CloudCamp, I want to create some t shirts for the events. I’m looking for something that combines the CloudCamp logo with both the theme of cloud computing and the fact that these events are firmly tailored for Australasian audiences. In what some might call [...]
Cloudcamp Seattle – Cloudcamp Comes Back To Seattle
Last year I covered Cloudcamp Seattle organized at Amazon HQ here. Overall, it was an interesting collection of people talking about everything Cloud Computing. This unconference style camps will play a major role in promoting Cloud Computing with people who don’t know anything about it and it will also help us to advance the technology to [...]
CloudCamp Sydney – March 2010
Confirmation this morning that CloudCamp Sydney will be taking place on the 4th of March. Cool kids expanz have stepped up as platinum sponsors for the event (a great thing about CloudCamps is that there is only one platinum sponsor slot per event – better for the attendees, better for the sponsors). At this stage [...]
CloudCamp Australia/New Zealand – Taking it to the Next level
I’m pretty excited to tell that I’ve been appointed as Australia/New Zealand organizer for CloudCamp. For those of you who don’t know, CloudCamps are events that allow: early adapters of Cloud Computing technologies [to] exchange ideas. With the rapid change occurring in the industry, we need a place we can meet to share our experiences, [...]
CloudCamp In The Cloud On October 22nd 2009
We are all familiar about Cloudcamp (See previous Cloud Ave coverages on Cloudcamp Seattle, Cloudcamp London, Cloudcamp Newcastle, Cloudcamp Auckland), an unconference where users and potential users come together and discuss about various topics about cloud computing and wonder about its future. While writing about the interesting idea behind Cloudslam ’09, I was complaining about [...]
CloudCamp – Thoughts from the Unpanel
Reporting from CloudCamp Auckland – “CloudCamp is an unconference where early adopters of Cloud Computing technologies exchange ideas. With the rapid change occurring in the industry, we need a place where we can meet to share our experiences, challenges and solutions. At CloudCamp, you are encouraged to share your thoughts in several open discussions, as [...]
Thoughts From Last Night’s Cloud Camp (Newcastle, not Boston!)
One problem with living somewhere like East Yorkshire (a problem for which there are certainly compensations…) is that it proves effectively impossible to engage with my chosen industry’s current penchant for short evening events (except one) without the added complication of such things as overnight stays in hotels. Unless these events coincide with other things [...]
CloudCamp gets big in London
The global CloudCamp phenomenon went to London for the third time last night, piggy-backing on the QCon enterprise computing conference to secure space in Westminster’s Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre for the evening. Partly buoyed with QCon attendees lured by the promise of free beer, CloudCamp registrations were rumoured to be in excess of 800. [...]
