Rethinking the Technology & IT Analyst Industry

Rethinking the Technology & IT Analyst Industry

By Zia Yusuf on February 20, 2011

(Guest post by Zia Yusuf, CEO, Streetline, formerly Executive Vice President, SAP) Over my last twelve years working as a senior executive in the technology industry I have had an opportunity to engage with a broad section of technology and IT analysts and researchers – both from established firms (eg. Gartner, Forrester etc.), smaller more [...]

If You’re API And You Know It

If You’re API And You Know It

By Christian Reilly on February 18, 2011

One of the most difficult things I am finding in this fractious time of cloud evolution is to define a plan (with any great authority) on absolutely anything strategic. Today’s fast-moving combination of business demands, architectural thought processes, technology shifts, and the sheer number of options within the vendor ecosystem is changing at such a pace [...]

What Honeycomb and Android Tablets Mean for Businesses

By Aaron Levie on February 1, 2011

Google is set to announce their first tablet-oriented Android operating system, codenamed Honeycomb. At Box, we’ve been waiting for this moment since we started seeing significant traction with our apps for both the iPad and Android phones, with nearly 400,000 downloads to date. With the introduction of Honeycomb, we’ll begin working immediately on a tablet-centric version of our Box Android app.
How did we get to this point?

Well, Well, SAP is now on Google Apps MarketPlace. Ok, Just StreamWork. But Still:-)

Well, Well, SAP is now on Google Apps MarketPlace. Ok, Just StreamWork. But Still:-)

By Zoli Erdos on December 6, 2010

Straight from the Who-woulda-thunk-it department: time to rethink the Enterprise Software is Not Sexy meme.  Or at least parts of it.  We’ve previously introduced SAP’s StreamWork collaboration platform – it is now available on the Google Apps Marketplace. That’s not exactly the old-fashioned Enterprise Approach to market. And if you look at SAP’s StreamWork Partner [...]

NetSuite Fights Hairball Epidemic with New Release and Edgy Marketing Campaign

NetSuite Fights Hairball Epidemic with New Release and Edgy Marketing Campaign

By Zoli Erdos on October 5, 2010

NetSuite’s marketing team has been known for their edginess, starting from pranks like the SAP for the Rest of Us Party during SAP’s annual conference to staging a shootout at the anti-SAP Conference or releasing edgy videos a’la Mac vs. Windows.  Today they are doing it again, by establishing the Hairball Institute for Business: (The [...]

Léo Apotheker's Ascension

Léo Apotheker’s Ascension

By Steve Mann on October 1, 2010

Well there was a lot of jaw droppin over the announcement that Léo Apotheker is HP’s new CEO and that Ray Lane is joining the Board. Here’s all the analysis worth reading. It’s just that, well, hmmmm. I’m a Léo…

CEO Musical Chairs

CEO Musical Chairs

By Zoli Erdos on September 30, 2010

<quick rant, not qualified analysis, don’t read much into it> So Leo Apotheker got HP.  Or did HP get Leo?  Either way, the former SAP CEO has just been named as the future savior of  HP.  Great pick.  HP’s troops have never been more demoralized, and Leo has a lot of experience with demoralized troops.  [...]

Steel Horses, Thorny Roses and Long, Winding Roads

Steel Horses, Thorny Roses and Long, Winding Roads

By Eric Norlin on September 14, 2010

As anyone who knows me knows, I have a borderline obsession with 1980’s hair metal and heavy metal. It was the music of my teenage years: I grew up listening to everyone from Iron Maiden to Bon Jovi, and I watched in absolute horror as my beloved form of music mutated into some kind of [...]

Selling modern software

Selling modern software

By Eric Norlin on September 7, 2010

Some conversational threads are converging today: 1. In a discussion this morning, I talked through two sales models in the “e2.0″ space — one, wherein non-IT people sign up for accounts, and the vendor then approaches IT about signing up for a comprehensive license; one wherein, the vendor uses more traditional enterprise sales methods to [...]

Well-spent Workday @ Workday–Here’s the Firehose

Well-spent Workday @ Workday–Here’s the Firehose

By Zoli Erdos on August 24, 2010

Yesterday I was privileged to sit in a group of 20 or so analysts (many of them fellow Enterprise Irregulars) invited to Workday’s first ever Technology Summit. For short background, Workday’s original call to fame came from it’s Founder, Dave Duffield, an Enterprise Software Legend, who built PeopleSoft from nothing to a position of challenging [...]

SAP Business ByDesign Video – Plain and Simple, Making Fun of …Wow, ERP!

By Zoli Erdos on July 18, 2010

We’re just having an intense internal debate in the Enterprise Irregulars group whether SAP’s Business ByDesign (ByD) is late to the market and what it all means, when hot off the press here’s a promotional video, that’s not so much ByD advertising but a SMB / SME SaaS 101, and a very good one at [...]

Is SaaS Dead? No. Neither is Debate.

By Zoli Erdos on July 8, 2010

We’ve had email dead, resumes dead, wikis dead themes, now it’s apparently time for the SaaS is Dead meme, thanks to a recently published Gartner report.   My favorite quote from the report: SaaS is not a panacea, and companies need to evaluate and understand the trade-offs that SaaS presents Indeed. Here’s another quote from Gartner [...]
