Why Every Company Needs to be More Like IBM and Less Like Apple

Why Every Company Needs to be More Like IBM and Less Like Apple

By Mark Fidelman on January 5, 2012

I was thirteen years old when I first saw it on TV. An army of blue-gray drones march in lockstep through a long tunnel into an auditorium filled with more drones dressed in futuristic, grey drab. All eyes are transfixed on a big-blue image of a man speaking from a theatre-sized screen, extolling the virtues [...]

Why IBM’s Watson Computer is Still a Moron

Why IBM’s Watson Computer is Still a Moron

By Mark Fidelman on February 28, 2011

“The computer is a moron” – Peter Drucker Computer programming technology is still dominated by “if – then” logic.  That means computers are still using logic (human programmed) to determine the answer to a question which must be part of a pool of answers.  If the answers are not in the pool, the computer will [...]

The Corporate Social Strategist Can’t Move Fast Enough

The Corporate Social Strategist Can’t Move Fast Enough

By Blake Landau on November 17, 2010

It will take more than a few Jedi-mind tricks for change agents and social strategists to convince upper management of the value of social. We are years away from where we need to be in corporate America. Yesterday it was reported that Wal-Mart made 3.5 billion dollars in the third quarter–and most of this revenue was coming from overseas operations. As it stands innovation is not happening fast enough.

The Parent, The Crock and The Heretic

The Parent, The Crock and The Heretic

By Mark Fidelman on November 11, 2010

The truth is, in every industry, across every culture there exists the cynic. The cynic tends to operate with a sense of longing, an emptiness.  Something isn’t being filled in their lives. Perhaps in business they’ve suffered terrible wounds. Wounds that rarely heal and can only be treated.  Unfortunately the cure tends to be the [...]

What if Peter Drucker Taught Enterprise 2.0? (Presentation)

What if Peter Drucker Taught Enterprise 2.0? (Presentation)

By Mark Fidelman on November 6, 2010

The Enterprise 2.0 Conference in Santa Clara is fast approaching.  There are a number of people and presentations that I am excited to see.  Alas, while I was fortunate enough to be selected to present at E2.0 Boston last spring, I missed the opportunity this fall.  So, in the spirit of the conference next week, [...]

Getting Past Passive

Getting Past Passive

By Eric Norlin on September 23, 2010

Okay, this is a bit of a rant, but here goes… I was reading this article this morning, and one sentence stood out: “Peter Drucker once said that ‘the purpose of a business is to create and keep a customer.’” The purpose of a business is to *create* a customer. As in actively bring to [...]
