Looking for input from readers on how they conduct a job search using social media tools. While I have road tested just about every job tool out there from Monster in 1999 through Dice, Career Builder, Linkedin and other job sourcing tools – the bottom line is that all the jobs I have gotten in the last 10 years are because I know someone.
The personal contacts we make are the most important contacts we can make, and they often are the only way into an organization. Knowing someone who is willing to bring your resume forward within the company has ended up being the only way to get through the rush at the door of many of the job listings that are online. What I am interested in learning and hearing your stories is how did you find the job you love, or how did you find a job at any time in the market.
The information will be used to write a free downloadable e-book, which will be distributed through Kindle as well as other e-book services. A free PDF will be made available for download and will be heavily promoted. If you provide a story or suggestion, that makes it to the book – you will be given full credit for your answer if you provide your name (I will even take aliases if you are uncomfortable using your real name). Unfortunately, as the book will be mostly free there will be no monitory compensation for participating.
I am truly interested in hearing your stories on how you used social networking to find a job, and believe your story will provide great value to others who are looking for employment. You can respond to this story in comments – or you can e-mail me directly at rmorrill AT gmail.com. Looking forward to hearing what you have found to be good social networking ways of finding the position you occupy and how well social networking has worked for you in finding employment.
