Bitnami (see previous CloudAve coverage), whose platform allows easy deployment of open source applications across multiple cloud providers, today partnered with SugarCRM (see previous CloudAve coverage) to make it easy to run SugarCRM Professional, Enterprise and Community editions on AWS using Bitnami Cloud Hosting. With this partnership, Bitnami Cloud Hosting becomes the preferred method of deploying SugarCRM on AWS. Bitnami got a shout-out from Amazon CTO, Werner Vogels, during his keynote at Cloud Connect 2011. This partnership signals additional momentum around Bitnami’s Cloud Hosting platform and it could help this company get better traction among the enterprise customers.
I had a chance to play around with Bitnami Cloud Hosting when it was in beta and I was pretty impressed with the ease with which one can deploy and monitor open source applications on the AWS cloud. Some of the features of Bitnami Cloud Hosting includes:
- 1-Click Application Deployment
- Automatic Backups and One Click Server Restores
- Server Scaling
- Server Scheduling
- Automatic Monitoring
- Multi-Account Management
Installing SugarCRM through Bitnami Cloud Hosting will be seamless giving consultants and solutions providers to have a completely configured SugarCRM environment up and running in the cloud in just minutes, making it easy for users of all technical skill levels to confidently run SugarCRM on the AWS cloud. This will especially be very handy for small businesses who cannot afford expensive solutions offered in the AWS ecosystem.
As cloud computing is turning out to be an alternative business model for open source vendors, SugarCRM saw the opportunity and has been making efforts to push their application to the cloud. In fact, last year, they announced that SugarCRM is certified for deployment on Windows Azure platform. This move gives them yet another channel to push their SugarCRM application on AWS cloud and position it to be an alternative to multi-tenant SaaS solutions available in the market.
