In case you are wondering why hundreds of thousands of Google geeks and regular geeks are on edge today, it is because today is the day that Google sends out its “Google Wave” invites. While no one knows how many people have signed up to get one, the popular belief is that they are rarer than a Wonka Golden Ticket.
Which means the flourishing ecosystem of Ebay is already seeing its first auction of a Google Wave invite today. The auction runs for two more days and is already up to 157 dollars at the time I looked. At the rate is it growing, the invite should top 1000 dollars here by the end of the first day of auction. The seller reserves the right to end the auction at the right price, so it will be interesting to see what the final bid on the invite will end up being.
Google wave has a lot of promise, and is going to be something that people will use in their daily lives. While there are still questions about privacy, the Google Terms of Service and how it will apply to the information that we will willingly plug into Google Wave, in the longer run, this is going to be an interesting stampede to claim first use of the system.
