Should Stumble Upon worry about Google Plus? One of the things I really do like about Google Plus is that it has the plus one list so I can keep track of what I am plussing. It does not mean I had to make this public, if anything you have to consciously click a button in your profile when you are editing it to make it public (thanks G+). What I would like to see though are some metrics around this to see how many other people also thought the article was cool, but then that would be like stumble upon. Which in lieu of metrics, G+ Plus 1 list looks a lot like stumble upon.
Stumble Upon
Google Plus 1 List
Should stumble upon worry at this point? Probably not because stumble upon has a hard core almost rabid fan base that keeps the site going and a steady stream of interesting articles showing up in people’s time lines. Google Plus is missing a few components that would make it truly useful for people to know how the content is being shared that Stumble Upon has been doing for a very long time. However, it would be trivial to include the metrics in your plus 1 time line.
Stumble upon should be watching this with a lot of interest, because when (not if) Google Plus starts including sharing metrics, stumble upon will be dealing with the 800 pound gorilla in the room. Stumble upon is going to have to do something to make their site absolutely compelling to stave off Google very soon, or like Digg, learn to live in relative obscurity.
