Congratulations to the WSJ for discovering Bingle, a mashup of Bingle and Google that displays search results side-by-side. It’s really handy, but nothing new and nothing out of ordinary. There’s also Bing & Google, Bing vs. Google – all three have been available for months, and there are probably a lot more. It takes close to nothing to create one, and they all produce similar results:
Bingle obviously has the best name (who can remember the hyphenation in the others), but I am partial to Bing vs. Google’s favicon which combines the two:
And while Bingle has a great name, it has a poor domain: who can remember typing bingle.nu? and if you type the .com extension, you can buy cheap auto insurance 🙂
Anyway, the best way to use these mashups isn’t gong to their site, but by including them in the search box in Firefox or even IE8. Install them, switch your default easily at a flick, and over time get a better feel for which search engine you prefer. (Hint: I do play with the comparison from time to time, but the default is still Google).

Many years ago, there was a startup company named “baigoogledu”, which inserted “google” into “baidu”. Literally you can guess it mashups the search results from google and baidu. I assume you know baidu.com, the largest Internet search company at China. This bingle seems following that way.
Zoli, it should be noted that bingle has been out for several months as well.. the WSJ article is simply showcasing the new site and domain.
I thought “congratulating” the WSJ for “discovering” it now conveyed the message that Bingle has been in existence for a while … but I rephrased that sentence, I think it’s clear now.
Thanks.
