enStratus (previous CloudAve coverage), the Minneapolis based company focussing on cloud governance, has raised $3.5 Million according to this MarketBrief from SEC filing.
Enstratus Networks, Inc reported today in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission it had raised $3.5M of a $4M private offering. Companies file this special form with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in the majority of cases when closing new funding.
This is particularly interesting after they announced earlier this week that they have hired James Urquhart from Cisco and the DevOps guru John Willis. They are prominent clouderati members and their hiring signifies their aggressive plans for the future.
enStratus is an interesting company because, unlike many other cloud management players, they focus deeply on governance, one of the biggest pain points for enterprises wanting to move to the cloud. In fact, I have heard from one of the large enterprise customers about how they filled the gaps left open by Cloud.com’s solution and this even lead to my speculation about Citrix acquiring enStratus. I haven’t heard anything about it but I am pretty sure, sooner than later, they are racing towards some big exit. It will be interesting to closely watch them on their strategy now that they are also working closely with CloudFoundry (previous CloudAve coverage), VMware’s PaaS offering.
Update: 3.5 Million funding round is from El Dorado Ventures from Menlo Park, CA. Jeff Hinck of El Dorado will be joining the Board of Directors. enStratus Networks LLC will be renamed as enStratus Networks Inc..
