Several blogs report the “news”, based on a Financial Times article that Sony VAIO PC’s will soon be selling with Google’s Chrome browser as default browser in the US. Nice, and it will no doubt help Google’s browser which still has less than 2% market share.
But it’s not exactly news. A month or so I could not resist the heavy back-to-school discounts and pick up a VAIO laptop to replace the old brick, and guess what: it came with Chrome as the default browser. A somewhat haphazardly installed default, I might add. Yes, it is set as system-wide default, but launch some of Sony’s own utilities that came with the PC and they are still hooked into IE8. (I guess this is not as bad as competitor HP’s Windows 7 Upgrade site, wich only works with Internet Explorer.)
