I found a good summary assessment of the recent MS Office announcement over at WebMonkey: MS Office on the Web: What it Is and What it Isn’t. I liked to content enough to link to it from my hastily written initial take, then as I looked at it again, I found something weird. Do you see what I see? 🙂
WebMonkey, now a Wired property displays a Creative Commons licence at the top of their footer. Specifically, it’s an Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported licence, which is actually quite liberal, allowing not only share and distribution, but also remix under certain conditions. Nice.
Except… at the bottom of the footer there’s a warning:
The material on this site may not be reproduced, distributed, transmitted, cached or otherwise used, except with the prior written permission of Condé Nast Digital.
Hm.. which one is it?
(Note: We @ CloudAve encourage redistribution, reuse of our ideas with a similar CC licence, even if we haven’t done a good job of displaying the CC logo prominently. But at least we don’t let the left hand take back what the right one gave away.)
