Enstratus, the company offering management services for Amazon Web Services, recently pointed out to a case study where they helped a SaaS company save big on hosting. I have been following Enstratus for sometime now. I also had a chance to talk to their CTO, George Reese (Cloud Ave interview with him about his recently released book can be found here), recently and they are doing a good job in helping companies manage their AWS resources more efficiently and securely. In fact, Enstratus offers a much better SLA than even what Amazon offers (99.9999%).
Their case-study points out to the experience of Predictix, a SaaS vendor offering retail merchandizing solutions on their hosting costs. Predictix was hosting their infrastructure with a traditional managed hosting provider. They wanted to move from their old fashioned hosting to Cloud based hosting. When they approached Enstratus with their requirements, they wanted three things
- Reduction in cost
- Increased security
- Easy scalability
Enstratus delivered exactly what they wanted. Their move to Amazon Clouds, coupled with Enstratus’ cluster manager, offered them an easy solution to their scalability problem. Enstratus Cloud management tools are built with security at the core and their patent pending technology ensures that all data is encrypted in the Cloud and the credentials needed to decrypt the data are kept far away from the Cloud where it is hosted. Predictix discovered that the use of Amazon Clouds and Enstratus Cloud Management tools had helped them in two major ways. It helped them save huge amounts of money on hosting (according to the CEO of Predictix, they saved up to 80% on the hosting costs) and, also, drastically reduced the disaster recovery time from 24 hours to few minutes (Check out my earlier post regarding the faster disaster recovery in the Cloud based hosting)
In short, the advantages of Cloud Computing are slowly felt by companies of varying sizes. From small businesses to SaaS vendors to, even, enterprises, the impact of the economic and technological benefits of Cloud Computing is felt strongly and these companies are reacting favorably to this shift in computing. Management vendors like Enstratus and others make it easy for these companies to migrate to the Clouds.
