Although understandably careful to avoid specific mention of the big database vendor from Redwood City, Sun’s Juan Carlos Soto took several opportunities to reaffirm his company’s continued commitment to their Cloud Computing vision during a recent conversation. The strategy is, of course, one about which we originally heard far less than Sun must have hoped, as its unveiling at CommunityOne came on the same March morning that the Wall Street Journal told the world about alleged acquisition talks between Sun and IBM.
Soto is Sun Microsystems’ Vice President for Cloud Computing Marketing, and I spoke with him last week as part of my ongoing podcast series.
Sun’s announcements deserved far more attention than they received, and Soto was confident in his assertion that everything remained on track for public availability this summer.
It will be interesting to see the extent to which Oracle agrees.
