We recently wrote about Zoho offering
an option to import data from Google Notebook to Zoho Notebook. Even though it
was a bit crude, it got the work done and gave peace of mind to many users of Google Notebook. Today, Evernote announced the availability of an option to import data from
Google Notebook to Evernote. Their process is a bit labor intensive but it gets
the work done. The migration process, as defined in the Evernote blog,
includes
Exporting out of Google Notebook
- Sign into Google Notebook
- Click on a notebook that you want to export
- Click the Export link at the bottom of the page
- Choose ‘Atom’ from the export options.
- Save the Google Atom Notebook file to your desktop
If you have multiple notebooks that you want to export, simply repeat this
process for each.Importing into Evernote
First, sign into
Evernote. Next, go to our Google Notebook import
page, which is also accessible from the Setting page on Evernote Web, and
import each notebook that you exported. It may take a few minutes depending on
the size of the notebook. Finally, if you use a desktop version of Evernote, hit
Sync to download those imported notes.
I have a shortcut to the first part of the Google Notebook-Evernote migration
process described in the Evernote blog. Instead of doing one notebook at a time,
you could download and install this Greasemonkey script. Once installed, it gives a link on the
top of Google Notebook to export all notebooks. Use the link to get the atom
link of all notebooks. Now use the DownloadThemAll Firefox addon to download all your notebooks
in atom format. From this point onwards, you can follow the steps given in the
Evernote blog (Importing into Evernote). This approach will save you quite a bit
of time if you are like me and have accumulated lots of data in your Google
Notebook.
