Accounting as an enabler for small and medium businesses is a topic I am passionate about. At the recent Office 2.0 conference I moderated a panel looking more broadly at money management in a 2.0 world. The video is reproduced below for those who haven’t seen it. (Thanks to Veodia for the vid)
Given my specific interest in accounting apps, and CloudAve’s obvious focus on Cloud Computing and SMB software, it seemed natural that CloudAve would become the "go to place" for information about Accounting 2.0.
Over the next few months you’ll see the direction we’re taking with this theme.
Following on from the Office 2.0 conference, it seemed obvious that there was a need for a place where accounting software thought leaders could articulate their vision for where we are heading. Somewhere that could be neutral and thus not seen as a pulpit for any one vendor to pitch from.
With that thought in mind, we’re developing two distinct offerings here on CloudAve
From the pulpit
We’re reaching out to the accounting software thought leaders and asking them how they see accounting software developing in the months and years to come. We’re asking them to put aside for a moment their own biases, but rather to articulate their vision of the added value and leverage that this "new wave" in accounting software will bring. We’re hoping the vendors and other thought leaders will appreciate having a place where they can trade ideas and opinions, away from their own commercial interests.
Product reviews
The last couple of years have seen a revolution – a multitude of players have started up offering on-demand accounting applications, and in their wake many of the traditional incumbents have introduced SaaS products too. We’ll be running an in-depth series of analyses of the offerings that are in the marketplace – over the next few months we’ll be taking a deep-dive into the murky waters of SaaS accounting.
What you need to do
Not much really! All posts relating to this stream will be tagged #ACCY2 – feel free to subscribe to our feed, or visit regularly to get your dose of Accounting 2.0! Very interesting initiative.
I would be interested in a couple of views:
1. The possibility to work offline and sync when in contact with the net.
2. Some services, like time reporting, can easily be separated from the traditional client installed software. That’s obvious and is already happening. But how can we transform the whole concept of computer based accounting now when we’re moving out of our local computers? (What is done where by whom?)
