I happen to be interested in collaboration, wrote Wikis are the Instant Intranet over 4 years ago, way before it became a trendy subject, so of course I clicked on this link by Sameer Patel:
+1 RT @dhinchcliffe: RT @elsua Required Reading: Is Social Intranet a Collab Solution? http://bit.ly/9FQ6aN @deb_lavoy /Outstanding read! Is Social Intranet a Collaboration Solution?
I took me to an article @ CMS Wire, titled: Is Social Intranet a Collaboration Solution? But I guess they don’t really want me to find out. The actual article was almost entirely covered by a poll – OK, that’s nothing unusual, except this one did not have a fast “no poll, let me read” option. I do not like forced polls, so quickly “voted” one of the options without even reading it, but no, I still wasn’t allowed to read:
Now I’m forced to view the poll results (how many bogus votes like mine?), and the top is even covered by a banner ad. Frustrated already, but let me read anyway… no way. There is no way to get out of this damn trap. CMS Wire, you’re shooting yourselves in the foot.
Hi Zoli,
We are sorry you had so much trouble getting to the article. Can I ask what browser you were using to access the site. I’ve never heard of this happening before.
thanks
barb
Hi Barb,
I was using Firefox – now I can get to the article, there is no poll whatsoever.
Thanks:-)
Hi Zoli,
CMSWire uses Google Ad Manager to serve their ads. It falls back on Ad Sense for inventory optimization.
Ad Sense will sometimes try to work its way to the top of the z-index, which is what you saw there. On a smaller screens this can cause overlay issues.
You can always hit the ESC key and the poll will go away. If there isn’t an overlay issue, you will always see a “X” button to opt-out of the poll.
Additionally, we only show the poll once to each visitor (if we can recognize them). That’s why you won’t see this particular poll again.
Thanks for your feedback. Next time we might appreciate an email though, rather than a blog post implying that we’re idiots.
best regards,
